A Little About us........ We obtained our first Norfolk 'Penny' in 1989, not long after we decided we wanted another. Well, at that time, they weren't easy to come by in my 'neck of the woods', so we expanded our interests toward the Norwich. It took until 1995 for us to get our first Norwich, but the wait was worth it! With our first Norwich also came the show ring. I had always admired those folks who were in the ring showing those beautiful dogs, but never thought I would be one of them myself. Kirby changed all that me...... It took almost two years to finish Kirby, but that was me not him! I owner/handled him; as I do all my kids; green though I was; plus we only entered local or 'in state' shows. Even though things went slow; the bug had bitten and I was hooked, need I say more...... then came Belle..... and then Kaly..... and then Nickel (another Norfolk). During that time I also expanded my grooming interests from just doing my 'pet' kids to doing my own 'show' grooming. Late in 2000, I went one step further by offering my grooming services to other 'pets' in need of hand stripping. Then we started our own breeding program with both the Norfolk and Norwich. Over the years, I've been asked several times: "How did you get your 'kennel name'?" Well, our first Norwich came from Port Huron, Michigan home of the Blue Water Bridge to Canada. We live in Michigan, nicknamed the "Blue Water state". Hence....... BluWater Terriers. The spelling was my idea of individuality, too many things named Blue Water 'this & that' around here. Since the mid 1990's I've been very active in local, regional and national Breed and Terrier Clubs. In doing so, I have learned so much about the Norfolk and Norwich breeds and Terriers in general. Issues such as: health concerns; genetics; behavior modification; and other events such as: earthdog; agility; obedience; and therepy. BENCHED SHOWS are somewhat on the 'rare side' nowadays, with only about 10 across the continental US. We here at BluWater are lucky to be near to 2 of these shows: The Detroit Kennel Club, held at Detroit's Cobo Hall Convention Center mid-March) & The Internation Kennel Club of Chicago at McCormick Place.(late February) What are benched shows? Well, they are just like regular confiramtion and obedience/agility shows, but with one MAJOR difference.... you can't leave until 5 or 6 PM; and yes, your dog is 'benched' (crated on a bench) all day, except when showing or exercising. Yep, it's a long tiring day for both the dogs and handlers..... but where else can breeders meet breeders and share all that knowledge and those stories and where else can interested persective owners meet the breeders of many different breeds all in one place and actually see dogs they have only read about. AKC EUKANUBA NATIONALS 2006 This IS a VERY PRESTIGIOUS show - to be INVITED you MUST either be in the top 25 of your breed or 'finish' your dog's championship from the Bred By Exhibitor. class. I was fortunate enough to finish 'Morgne' from the Bred By Exhibitor class and WAS INVITED to attend!! I had never been to California before, but for the hospitality of a good friend. I was able not only to show Morgne at the 'Nationals'; but partake of the beautiful vistas of the countryside and tours of many of the neighboring commuities including: Hollywood; Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive.
